News

Orangehaus Records would like to introduce you to the new SPIN, in email format! We have hit the ground running during the month of October. Throughout this issue of SPIN, we hope to update you on all the activities that have taken place.

On October 20th, we had our New Artist Showcase. Much work went into the planning, promotion, and set-up of this event. The evening went very smoothly with no technical difficulties, and every group played well. The decision to narrow it down was a tough one for the Orangehaus staff to make.

After reviewing the bands' stage presence, song quality, and musical ability, we selected three of the artists to come in for an interview with the staff. This interview helped us to get to know them better and see their individual personalities. The three chosen for this interview were Amy Fitzgerald, Nathanael Hency, and Baxter.

After the interview and a lengthy discussion, we then decided to continue contract negotiations with Baxter. Nathanael Hency came in a close second, and we hope that sometime in the future we will get to work with this talented young man.

The next steps regarding Baxter and contract negotiations will be discussed in the upcoming month, and hopefully we will begin recording with them by the end of December.

Updates

VP of Marketing- Throughout the past month, the marketing team did extensive marketing for the showcase which included the following: putting up multiple posters, table tents, passing out oranges, and making a video which aired in chapel the day of the showcase. Also, a brainstorming session was completed with the marketing staff. This session was productive and many marketing ideas were conceived by the group. The month of November will be filled with plans for marketing the new band, drafting, and finishing the final marketing plan.

VP of A&R- During the month of October, the A&R team had a great deal of responsibility dealing with the new artist showcase. They were actively involved in the planning, promotion, and set-up of the showcase. Throughout the concert, staff members filled out evaluation forms created by the A&R team. Each staff member wrote comments and concerns about each artist or group that took the stage. These forms were then used in the later discussion held with the entire staff to narrow down the five groups to three. In the next month, the focus of A&R is going to shift dramatically from the showcase to the new group signed. A recording budget will be developed for the new album, and a graphic artist will be chosen to create a concept for the album.

VP of Publishing- This month we continued working on getting a songwriters' forum put together with Mark Pay, Rick Vale, and Josh Heiner from Provident Label Group. We hope to hold the forum sometime before Thanksgiving. After this forum, we will start accepting new song submissions. In the upcoming semester, Elenie Dimoulis will start working at the Gaither Copyright management to continue our ongoing strong relationship with the big-name publishing company.

VP of Business- In October the Business team was busy getting Orangehaus merchandise designed and made. A new Orangehaus t-shirt and a CD opener in the shape of the Orangehaus logo has been developed. Look for these new items soon in the Anderson University Bookstore. The Orangehaus and Music Business Department pamphlets are in the final stages of editing and soon will be distributed to prospective students that are interested in the program.
